There is this great debate on trip with parents vs trip with friends/by yourself etc. I think for sure there are differences. Let me have a quick discussion about this here. I’ve travelled with my family to a lot of places around the world, to places which I think most youngsters want to have the opportunity to go. Many people will view me as being the few lucky ones whose parents would take them to the Mulu Caves, mount Kota Kinabalu, China this and that. In effect, yes but also no. Its a tricky one. I think I am quite a thrill seeker. I like going to places which challenge boundaries, unusual places to do something which I would normally not experience in my day to day interactions. Sometimes I feel frustrated going to these places with my parents - because like all parents - they have a certain expectations of what they want out of it. Whether its a trip where they can do a lot of shopping, or a trip where they don’t need to spend much money or a trip which they want to see everything but want to walk everywhere but couldn’t and yet doesn’t want to pay for taxi! Most of the time, I feel somewhat hindered. These places may probably be great places to be, but because of some preconditioned expectations/personalilty, travelling with family will undoubtably be very different from travelling with friends. I have to admit, I enjoy holidays with my friends a lot more. I do have good holidays with my parents - for instance, Europe is a good destination - because then we can do ‘family’ stuff but not stuff which 20 year olds do but they want to do at the age of 50. Perhaps at the end of the day, its the generation gap. You just want to hang out with people who you want to do the same things at you with the same sort of attitude to money, experience etc.
So, I went on holiday with Jac, Xiyu and Randy a couple of weeks ago. It was a great trip despite the fact that QuGee decided to ditch us last minute to go to Cornwall instead. I’m sorry - I’m still quite upset about this point! Either way, it was great. Got to know Xiyu better and caught up with Randy and Jac. All in all it was a superb trip filled with a lot of laughter, jokes, occasional bullying and pro-crastin-ating in the car when we travelled from one place to another. I have to say the music got us well companied.
Before Randy arrived, we (the 2 girls and I [was going to say me and 2 girls]) travelled down south to New Forest near Southampton. It was a plesant surprise to me, because I really enjoyed the greenary - the really tall pine trees, the ocassional widelife and the relaxing time sitting next to the stream:
Then when Randy finally joined us, we went to watch Inception, which in my opinion is one of the best films I’ve seen to date, with Agnes and Dave. The next day we headed up north. As I said…it was a great trip, not going to go into much details but share some photos with you’all here.
After years and years (ok, just 1 year many years ago…) of a circle on a UK map in Jac’s room at Queens Gate, we went all the way up north to make a dream come true:
I’m very happy she made it, and I am very happy I was part of it, so thank you Here is a group photo to end the post:
