āYou got done by a 10 year old,ā a friend said to me today. The problem with the time we are living in is the fact that most of the āsocialisingā we do are done virtually. No longer do you hear the voice of the other person, see their facial expression, and examine further their motives. They say āBan the Niqab/burkhaā ā why? Because the face conveys who you are, and without seeing someoneās face you canāt really interact with them. In other words, their face is the interface to their soul. Iāve read on a friendās blog about taking photos in China ā how people donāt like their photos taken because they are scared that by capturing their face, their soul will somehow get stolen. Yet you know what? In the time we live in, socialising websites such as āfacebookā becomes our face to the outside world. However, our face on Facebook can be anything we want our face to be. If tomorrow I put up a picture of Pamela Anderson and declare myself female, I could end up with many āfriendsā who think I am Pamela Anderson.
I did something on Facebook today I really wished I hadnāt done. I remember telling my cousin in Australia that I am ENFP and he said to me āSo you speak before you think?ā Then another friend said to me again ānight brings good councelā. Psychologically speaking, what I did today was the P function taking over ā the impulisiveness. I am still trying to find out why I feel so bad about what happened, the answer I keep coming back to is that a child was involved (amongst other things). Perhaps my use of language could have been better? Perhaps I couldāve kept my thoughts to myself? Perhaps my sense of humour is too British (and adult)? Whatever it is, I realised I havenāt been around Children for so long that perhaps I donāt know what is appropriate and what isnāt. Almost to the extent that I had a paradigm shift. Incidentally, the Chancellor today discouraged smart people from having children by getting rid of child benefits for those earning over 44K pounds. Makes me think about this whole thing about having kids or what not ā not that I plan to have kids in the near future but the fact that a conservative government is making financial policies against families is very surprising to me.
Sorry for digressing. So today I feel like Iāve been a victim of virtual socialising, and I donāt like playing the role of the villain. Sighā¦
